Oh China, Can You Ever *Not* Blatantly Steal the Work of Others?

June 19, 2011 by Josh Wanamaker

China’s latest incredibly blatant knockoff product, Final Combat, takes more than just inspiration from Team Fortress 2.

Behold the video for "the Rocket" character of China's latest incredibly blatant knockoff product, Final Combat. Does the Firefighter/RPG wielding maniac look familiar to you? He should, because he was kidnapped from Team Fortress 2.

The Rocket is just the first of nine classes included in this ridiculous example of plagiary, and they're sure to produce amusing "meet the blank" video intros for each class, just you wait and see. They've ripped off just about everything from Team Fortress 2 for this thing, including sound effects, interface, typography, etc. The one level seen in the included gameplay video appears to be taken directly out of Battlefield Heroes. You name it, they've stolen it. We're all accustomed to to the practice of Chinese companies making unrestricted use of other's intellectual property, but this kind of blatancy is rare even for the Red Dragon.

Final Combat will likely be released as a free-to-play title on China’s Xunlei gaming portal.
