Minecraft PS3 worlds will be transferable to the PS4 and PS Vita versions of the game when they're released later this year according to Mojang's Owen Hill on the PlayStation Blog.
Hill wrote:
"4J are working on bringing Minecraft to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Sorry for the delay but making Minecraft happen is serious business."
And added in the comments section that:
"The plan is to enable users to transfer from PS3 to PS4. We’re still working out how it’ll work with the Vita version."
A release date for Minecraft on PS4 and PS Vita has yet to be announced but those versions of the game are both expected before the end of September – we may get a release date at Sony's E3 press conference in June.
Details on a reduced price for those upgrading from the PS3 to PS4 version or even a full cross-buy offer will be revealed shortly Hill added:
"We'll have more news on cross-buy/upgrade options soon! I understand that the wait is frustrating, but we don't want to make false promises."
Minecraft, released on the PlayStation Store late last year, will be available at retail from May 14th in Europe and May 16th in North America. PS Vita and PS4 retail versions have also been spotted.
