Skylanders Trap Team Promises To Trap Parents Money This October

April 24, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The popular minifigure video game franchise has a new elaborate gimmick, that needs a 4 minute commerical to explain it.

Activision and Toys for Bob has unveiled the newest iteration of Skylanders. It’s definitely a gamechanger, but possibly not as radical as you thought. Introducing Skylanders Trap Team.

The big twist? Of the 50 new characters, you can choose to play as the bad guys as well as the good guys. Main villain Kaos has busted Skylands’ baddest bad guys out of Cloudcracker Prison, and it’s up to the Portal Masters to catch them. The Trap is the real gimmick here – you can place some of your prisoners into Traps, and then place them into the brand new Traptanium Portal, which will allow you to capture them, and even hear them from inside the traps.

The game promises 60 new toys, including Portal Masters, playable bad guys, and some reposed classic Skylanders. Accordingly, the starter pack is now a must have even if you bought an older game, as it comes with a Trap Master, a new Skylander, two traps, and the new Traptanium Portal. The starter pack will retail for $ 74.99 and will come October 5. Interestingly, Activision has contracted Beenox for the ports for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Toys For Bob are sure to bring the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions, and they presumably will also be working on the Wii U and 3DS versions as well.

There’s a lot more to that premise, but we understand that only real hardcore Skylanders fans would  care, but if you are one of those people, you can read about it here.

I indicated at the start of this report that this is a bit of a disappointment. Truthfully, Swap Force seemed to have a far more innovative idea, and easy to grasp as well. Still, I won’t pretend to know what the kids like. We’ll see how well this one pans out. You can watch the achingly overworked introductory commercial here.
