Bandai Namco have unveiled a new fighting game, a seeming 3rd pillar to support established franchises Tekken and Soul Calibur. Introducing Rise of Incarnates.
Actually, the game introduces another mechanic lifted from another Bandai Namco series, namely, Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS. Human characters called incarnates can summon superpowered creatures, who can fight with them, or they can transform into.
The game’s premise is straight out of the 90s. Meteorites fall from the sky when these incarnates discover their powers. Several notable characters and factions appear, including Wild Hunt, which seeks to hunt down the Incarnates, and Dr. Gaspar Watteau, who headed experiments to awaken Incarnate powers, and has now become a wanted criminal who lugs around with him a personal zombie horde. Don’t expect anything deep, but at least the story won’t hamper from the fun.
The game offers two versus two combat in a 3D plane to boot. The trailer does not appear to show actual gameplay, but from what I’ve seen, it will be very similar to Anarchy Reigns.
The most interesting thing about this game, really, is that it’s coming to PC, which hints at a complete reframe on how Bandai Namco will be producing this fighter. I’m already calling it: if it’s not free to play at launch, it will be in a year’s time.
Hopefully we get a good game out of this one. You can check out the game’s official trailer below and check out an official comic and sign up for the alpha on the official site.
