One of the most anticipated video game titles of 2020 has been Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red is a well-known video game development studio after delivering fans The Witcher trilogy. Now fans can expect to dive into Cyberpunk 2077 after years of waiting. In fact, it looks like those on PC was eager to dive into the game as well since there was a record-breaking number that was achieved yesterday.
Cyberpunk 2077 may just now be getting out on consoles, but PC players managed to get the game a bit earlier. Those that started the game up on Steam were one of the million-plus player base community that was measured on December 9, 2020. In fact, so many people tried to get this game going at launch that Steam was bogged down for a short while. Fans were reaching out online showcasing their crawling download speeds from Steam in order to get the day one patch before they could actually start the game.
Fortunately, it didn’t seem to last too long as the game download speeds picked up and fans started to make their way into Night City. Being such a big video game project that had fans waiting for years, it looks like the concurrent players for the game broke Steam records. According to a report from PC Gamer, the number of players that were playing Cyberpunk 2077 at launch was 1,003,264. That’s a massive number of concurrent players and it makes sense that Steam had a bit of difficulty getting the day one patch downloaded for gamers.
This breaks the record for most players in a single-player video game title. Still, with that many players enjoying the game, we’re seeing quite a few reports online of different glitches and bugs. I imagine these reports are also helping CD Projekt Red understand where the problems are coming from within the game and can deliver updates sooner rather than later.
