2020 has been an odd year, to say the least. With the coronavirus health pandemic outbreak, the entire world was thrown out of wack. We are forced to refrain from social gatherings, wearing masks when out in public, and work for most people is done remotely. It’s a weird time and certainly a one that has people starving for entertainment. For the video game industry, we witnessed a few video games really pop off.
For instance, we had Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout that was released this summer which came out during a time where most of us were quarantined. With the game launching on PlayStation Plus, there was an instant player base ready to enjoy the game. However, that game has died down a bit but it wasn’t long after that another indie game took the internet by storm. Among Us was a huge success and it was a game that launched well before the pandemic.
This sleeper hit grew a surprise following that even with support ending, the developers saw the player base immediately skyrocketed which they opted to bring back support for players to enjoy once again. However, this skyrocketed in popularity also meant that the studio was forced to make some major changes to the game programming. Players were told that big changes will be happening and it seems that the first big update since its newfound popularity is a map change.
We knew beforehand that Among Us will have a new map and we should see it displayed during The Game Awards this year. However, that’s not all that the developers having in mind. In a tweet from the official Among Us Game Twitter account, the development team noted that while there is a new map coming out, there are more secret things that they have planned this month. Unfortunately, we don’t know just when these updates will be unveiled. It very well could be one of the announcements set for The Game Awards this year, however, we’ll just have to wait and find out. Furthermore, it will be interesting to see just how popular this game ends up being now that Cyberpunk 2077 has officially launched.
