Age of Empires: World Domination Coming to Mobile Devices This Summer

April 14, 2014 by Yesika Reyes

A free-to-play version of Age of Empires will be available on mobile devices this Summer.

An announcement trailer was released today for Age of Empires: World Domination and it revealed that the game will be released on Android, iOS, and Windows Phone platforms this summer.

Last year, we reported that Microsoft planned to release the game on Android and iOS devices but no release date was specified. The company also stayed mum on whether or not it will also be available on their native Windows Phone devices for quite some time. This game should not be confused as a remastered edition of the original Age of Empires game available on Steam or a port of Age of Empires: Online.

The trailer revealed that players will be able to choose from more than 100 heroes. In addition, there's also the ability to create distinct troops from various civilizations. It also features a revamped real-time battle system that's different from past games in the franchise. While players can compete against one another, it is also possible to team up in co-op multiplayer models.

The game will also adopt a free-to-play model, but it does not specify whether or not it will including microtransanctions like most titles that adopt the same strategy.

Age of Empires series was originally developed by now defunct Ensemble studios. Presently, Microsoft is developing World Domination in collaboration with Japanese gaming company KLab. The latter is reportedly helping Microsoft develop games for rival platforms in the mobile scene.
