We have some rumors about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that you may not welcome. If you own a PS4 and/or an Xbox One in particular, you won’t like this one.
Apparently, CD Projekt Red currently has Witcher 3 running at 30 FPS for both consoles. Furthermore, resolutions are pegged at 900p for Playstation 4 and 720p for Xbox One. In stark contrast, they are pushing the game on their PC build. It can run 1080p, 8x MSAA at 35 to 45 FPS, and can also hit a consistent 60 FPS when MSAA is lowered.
We have no way of saying if the rumor is true, but if we go back to CD Projekt Red’s earlier statements, an interesting picture emerges. They have consistently deflected questions regarding specs. They stated last January that the game is not possible in PS3 / Xbox 360 because of the scope of the open world, not the specs. Last February, they stated that they wanted fans to focus on gameplay over the specs. Lastly, just last month, they said that they did not want to talk resolution until the game was done.
Of course, this tweet from two months ago is the clincher:
2. Certain upcoming Polish game 720p/30FPS XBO, 900p/PS4 (working hard to keep 1080p).

So, is there a possibility that this rumor is true? Will The Witcher 3 benefit or hurt visually from these lower performance benchmarks? Should we stick our hopes on speculation that CD Projekt Red will eventually raise these specs? Or should we just accept that, once again, PS4 and Xbox One takes a backseat to the PC when it comes to game performance? We’ll make sure to keep you up to date when we get more information.
