Formerly known as Ghost Recon Online, Ubisoft announced in a press release that the title has been rebranded as Ghost Recon Phantoms and is now available on Steam and Windows PC.
"Ubisoft has built a new identity for Ghost Recon Phantoms that includes a new background story, new user interface as well as new character and weapon designs for all three classes. Three maps have also been updated with a complete lighting and level redesign. Players will also be able to fully customize their weapons and characters with the new ModMaster feature to help them stand out on the battlefield," the press release reads.
Matchmaking has also been improved to take into account player skills and their level of equipment. The developers have also retooled the experience to let new players gain access to better weapons sooner.
Releasing the game on Steam allowed them to distribute the game worldwide for the very first time. According to producer Corey Facteau, the company believes that the platform will increase ther five million strong user base. It was also noted that Ubisoft will open servers in Asia, Australia, and South America in addition to their existing ones in Europe and North America.
