Creative Assembly has revealed they are implementing touch controls onto Total War Rome 2, for people playing on touch-enabled Windows devices.
No, this isn’t Total Rome 2 on iPad, not yet. The devs may be touting the game is now available for mobile, but they are demonstrating the game on a Windows 8 Intel tablet (might be an all-in-one as far as I can tell), so the game has still been made with desktop power.
Even though you can’t play it on your iPad, if you do have a touch enabled Windows 8 device and this game installed in it, you are in for a treat. Touch controls would seem to be the most obvious step forward for the game series, and Creative Assembly brings that vision to life. Pinch the screen to zoom in on the action, press and hold to select units and groups and direct them where you want to go. Drag across the screen to move around the battlefield, and so on and so forth. Everything that seemed a little extraneous to do with a keyboard and mouse is now effortless on a touch screen.
Really, describing is nowhere near as good as seeing it, although we think you may want to check player impressions before you decide to drop dimes on this. Judge for yourself; you can watch the reveal trailer for Touch Control Total War Rome 2 below. Total War Rome 2 will be available on OS X (nope, not iPad) spring of this year, and eventually on Linux on an unnannounced date.
