Watch Dogs: Where the Name Came From, PS4 & Xbox One Framerates, More Revealed

April 1, 2014 by Stephen Daly

PC settings aren’t final and multiplayer matches can be 30 minute long chases.

Watch_Dogs creative director Jonathan Morin has revealed a host of new details about the game on Twitter.

Morin began by saying that while the framerates for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game are not final, both versions of Watch_Dogs offer a "very stable/constant" framerate. He also said that the game's PC specs have not yet been finalised.

Asked where Ubisoft got the name, Morin replied, "watchdogs means guardians and also heavily relates to hacking and security monitoring. Also Watch & Dogs each have their role."

Relating to the game's combat, he commented that most enemies will take three bullets to kill unless players score a headshot but warned "lets just say mean mother****** are better protected.”

On driving, Morin revealed that players will have the option to get around using cockpit view. "Who cares if its a third person game? Cockpit is cool and fits well in the flow," he commented.

He said the game world will be large but there's a lot packed in, "It's big but I'm not into the scale war. Scale for scale is pointless. More interested in the dept/density for a game like Watch_Dogs." Morin also revealed that the recently released Welcome to Chicago trailer runs on PS4 devkit footage.

NPCs in the game will call the police if they see Aiden shoot and it won't be long before the cops show up but whether you choose to fight or flee is up to you.

Regarding Watch_Dogs' multiplayer, which involves invading another player’s game and then attempting to hack money from them, Morin confirmed that players will have time to formulate a plan as they stalk their victim, before running the hacking program but that once they engage the other player the match "will finish once there's a winner…" Multiplayer matches can become 20 to 30 minute chases, he added.

Finally, questioned about the extent to which Ubisoft is pushing the PS4 with Watch_Dogs, Morin said: "We do push quite a lot but this is the very beginning of a generation… We will have years of fun with those," presumably meaning the Xbox One as well.

Watch_Dogs is set for release on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on May 27th with the Wii U version launching at a later date.
