EA’s Origin Going Digital Only

March 31, 2014 by Stephen Daly

The change is set to happen this Friday but Maxis will continue to release disc based games.

EA has announced that its Origin service will discontinue support for physical media from this Friday, April 4th, on PC and Mac.

In a statement on Origin's website, EA's Craig Harris wrote:

"What does this mean for you? If you're among 99 percent of our users, absolutely nothing. Your shopping experience hasn't changed one single bit. But if you're that one percent who still desires a physical collection, we want to let you know that Origin won't be able to fulfill that need beginning April 4th. We'll still be here when you transition your gaming habits to the wonders of digital downloads."

The Sims 4 developer Maxis will continue to support discs however, PR manager Charlie Sinhaseni confirmed on Twitter, "just to clarify, we're still putting out boxed versions of our games, just not through Origin."

Do you think you'll be affected by the change to all-digital on Origin?
