Project CARS Will Use Project Morpheus

March 26, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Slightly Mad Studios is one again front and center in pledging support for new tech.

Slightly Mad Studios has stepped up to the plate. Project Cars is the 1st major 3rd party video game project in development announced to pledge support for Sony’s Project Morpheus.

Slightly Mad talks up virtual reality for racing games, citing the ability to judge distances, and how speed and depth can be rendered in stereoscopic vision.

They also bring up Project Morpheus-specific enhancements. Working with the Playstation Camera’s head tracking, you will be able to simulate the feeling of moving around the cockpit itself, allowing you to look around the vehicle, and even turn to look out the back window.

Overall, Slightly Mad is optimistic about Project Morpheus’ potential, claiming players will simply be blown away. To put this in context, Slightly Mad Studios also announced Oculus Rift support last 2012. There was even a rumor that they would support TrackIR, although we don’t know if anything is really going to come out of that. Whatever the case, there’s no doubt that Slightly Mad is optimistic about using tech, so other optimizations of other platforms are probably also in the running, such as use of the GamePad on Wii U, Vita to Playstation 4 connectivity, etc.

We might have to wait a little longer before you can play the racer with Project Morpheus, but not for Project Cars itself. It’s coming Fall 2014 to Windows, SteamOS, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U.
