Wii U Won’t Upscale Wii Titles

June 13, 2011

Wii U to not upscale Wii games and will not be backwards compatible with Gamecube titles, unlike its predecessor.

It has already been announced that the Wii U will support backwards compatibility with Wii titles, but you'll be saddened to know that the new platform will not be upscaling the resolution of the games. The news comes from Mark Franklin(via giantbomb), head of Nintendo's PR, who confirmed that Wii games will end-up looking the same on the Wii U.

We think that Nintendo might want to cash in on releasing HD remakes of classic Wii title instead of simply allowing some texture filtering and high resolution along with backwards compatibility. Just so you know, unlike its predecessor, the Wii U will not support Gamecube titles.
