A fan has found Spinal’s classic costume in Killer Instinct for Xbox One.
The odd thing is the fan claims he does not know what he did to get Spinal’s costume out. It only appears in his 1st player select screen, and he can’t make the costume come up for 2nd player. He also seems to be able to choose all five color schemes for the classic costume.
Now, to be clear, the classic costume is not much of a costume at all. Just a barebones skeleton with a red scarf on his head, and a sword and shield. This harkens back to another classic look, of course: the undead skeleton warriors summoned by King Aeëtes and animated by Ray Harryhausen in the 1963 stop motion classic Jason and the Argonauts.
The red scarf, of course, is an affectation added by Rare, perhaps to avoid copyright issues, but also so that they could add their own spin on the archetype. Rare’s skeleton warrior is a maniacal pirate, originally created by Ultratech in some way, but now retconned to have been summoned by a relic called the Mask of the Ancients, which he now seeks to be free of his unliving state.
Have you guys picked up Killer Instinct yet? The game still can’t really be said to be in a complete state, but as loyal fans will tell you, in its current form, the game is a lot of fun. It is literally a must have on the Xbox One, as a return of a long dormant franchise, and also a free demonstration of the console’s online capabilities.
