Watch Dogs on PS4: Ubisoft Can’t Fill Memory Budget, ‘Really Nice Hardware’

March 21, 2014 by Stephen Daly

‘It’s a bit like working with an unlimited budget because we can’t fill the memory budget on PS4.’

Watch_Dog developers at Ubisoft have praised the PlayStation 4's hardware saying the console has "really given us the platform to build a new type of game," in an interview with the PlayStation Blog.

Animation director Colin Graham said:

"It gave us a chance to dream. From an animation point of view we're always running out of memory, especially when you start developing towards the end of a console generation, so PS4 allowed things like reduced animation compression and more variety in civilians.

"From my point of view it's a bit like working with an unlimited budget because we can't fill the memory budget on PS4. It's a really nice piece of hardware."

Lead game designer Danny Belanger also praised Sony's hardware commenting:

"The powerful technology helped us create a better simulation. The water effects, the amount of people in the city, the quality of the lighting… it all brings us a step forward."

Ubisoft yesterday detailed the PS3 and PS4 exclusive content for Watch_Dogs with a new trailer. The game is coming to those platforms on May 27th along with the PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One versions while the Wii U edition will be released at a later date.

Earlier today, Ubisoft officially announced Assassin's Creed Unity which will be set during the French Revolution.
