Ubisoft is planning to release the next generation of Far Cry in the early portion of 2015, a report from Eurogamer asserts. The project is said to take place in the snowy mountain ranges of the Himalayas, and will include rideable elephants. Yes, elephants that you can ride from place to place.
Right away, it’s clear that this is a geographical departure from the tropical beaches and lush jungles that we’ve seen in past Far Cry games. However, Eurogamer’s source confirms that there will still be outposts to conquer and hunting to be had. The gameplay will also be similar to past iterations, so the key difference here is a lower temperature and a new set of hardware for the game to run on.
It’s still unclear whether or not Far Cry 4 will launch on PS3 and Xbox 360, though. Ubisoft is set to reveal the game during its annual press conference at E3, with the target release date sitting in early 2015. Whether or not the publisher is interested in supporting a slew of devices or just the most powerful ones will likely be revealed in LA this summer.
Ubisoft hasn’t commented on this rumor, but thanks to the success of Far Cry 3 and Blood Dragon, it seems logical to push forward with this open-world series.
