Carmageddon Reincarnation is now available and waiting for you on Steam Early Access. Be forewarned; the game is so early in development that it is still pre-alpha. Stainless Games has taken pains to explain this in their FAQ.
Most gamers may know of games in their alpha and beta phases. Alpha is when the game can be played in its entirety without any progress blocking bugs that come up 100 % of the time. Beta is when the placeholder assets in alpha have been replaced with the final assets, and they have removed priority bugs up to a certain level.
So, pre-alpha is the point where the game has a schedule of code and assets that have yet to be written and / or created. As a result, the game Early Access players will get now is riddled with bugs and lacks many features. Players should expect the game to have constant performance issues, and crashes all the time.
However, Stainless Games has decided to put the game up now because they know loyal fans have been waiting a long time, and will have to wait a little longer. The game is already at the point where fans can enjoy it – and there’s enough in there for them to acquire and use fan feedback.
So, knowing the game is likely to be broken and inoperative, but will be fun if it does work, why would you want to buy it now? Among other things, the price will shoot up to full retail afterwards.
