Good news is up for the Smash community, as Super Smash Bros Melee has been confirmed for both EVO and MLG for this year.
EVO had Melee tentatively listed when they made the initial announcement of the 2014 lineup, but were then waiting for permission from Nintendo to stream the game live. Now they know the game will be joining them this June 11-13 in Las Vegas
Not long after EVO’s announcement on SRK, MLG CEO Adam Apicella tweeted that Melee would be coming back to the MLG Pro Circuit. It’s been rumored that Nintendo sought out MLG to set up an official tournament, but we don’t really know enough to confirm that that is the case.
Excited to welcome back Super Smash Bros. Melee to the #MLG Pro Circuit at #MLGAnaheim June 20-22. More details and pass sales this week!

This marks the 1st year MLG has been cleared to stream their Melee tournament, and the 1st time both EVO and MLG are streaming Melee. It’s a clear turnaround from the events of last year.
Adam has confirmed additional details about their Smash tournament. They will have a $ 15,000 prize purse, and Adam is looking for as many of the older players to come to Anaheim as possible. They are making room for crew battles, old school match ups, and friendly matches. Adam promises to host as many Smash players as they can accommodate.
Of course, with all this hype we can’t ignore that the next Smash Bros is coming up soon. Smash Bros For 3DS and Wii U, referred to by fans as Super Smash Bros 4, is releasing sometime this year. Will Nintendo be unveiling the game in MLG or EVO? We look forward to hearing the hype, but until then, congratulations to the FGC, especially the Smash community, and we expect you to entertain us soon!
