Ubisoft’s hybrid hack-and-slash / tower defense game The Mighty Quest For Epic Loot is now in open beta.
Get past the obnoxious E3 2013 trailer and you will see Ubisoft actually has something interesting going on here. The whole game revolves around loot, buying it (with real cash, this is a free to play game after all), fortifying your castles to protect your own, and then going to other player’s castles to steal their money.
Ubisoft took an interesting direction with the game’s themes as well, making it more Discworld than Diablo. Opulencia is a fantasy world that’s more than willing to play around with its tropes, and promises a place where friends can have a lot of fun trying to do each other in and taking their swag.
Ubi has revealed the playable characters thus far: the blockhead Knight, the shifty Archer, the swole Runaway, and the stereotypical Mage. Each character offers a different playstyle, and customizable options are multitude, from armor, to castle fittings and fortification. Don’t expect to build anything OP though; you will have to be beat your castle yourself before you are allowed to put it up online for others to face.
Obviously, getting into the beta now requires you sign up for Uplay. On the flip side, going in now means the Runaway will be added as a playable character. If you can live with that, go ahead and sign up on their official page here. You can also check out the official trailer below.
