Deus Ex: The Fall Headed To Steam (Update: Rumor Confirmed)

February 25, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

If you were unhappy the game was released on mobile, you now have a chance to show Eidos they were wrong.

Update: Eidos did not wait too long to confirm Deus Ex: The Fall on Steam. The game is coming March 25 for $ 9.99. Preordering it now will also get you a copy of Deus Ex: GOTY Edition free. You can get more details here.

Original Story:

Fans have found evidence that Deus Ex: The Fall may be coming to Steam. This comes in the form of art assets from the game in Steam’s servers. It’s worth noting that the images are still online. We'll share them for you below.

Fans traced the app number, which now appears as an unknown app, meaning it has either been deleted or is hidden to the public. Considering the image urls still work, the latter seems to be the case.

What is Deus Ex: The Fall? Published on iOS and Android, the game is a side story preceding the events of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Ben Saxon, formerly a member of the mercenary group the Tyrants, investigates the Illuminati’s early experimentation of human augmenting drugs in the black market.

In regards to gameplay, Deus Ex: The Fall is almost identical to Human Revolution. You do many of the same things, such as collect Praxis points for augmentations, kill enemies to earn experience, play hacking minigames, etc. The only difference is that it’s all done with touch controls. The game had mixed critical reception, with many citing not only the problems with adapting Deus Ex’s nuances to touch, but also bugs and issues with the game itself.

Perhaps mirroring Konami’s moves with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate, and more recently, Batman: Arkham Origins: Blackgate, Deus Ex: The Fall is making the jump to Steam simply so that Square Enix can make more money back from the loyal console owners. Deus Ex fans were angry that the game was announced as a mobile exclusive; perhaps now they will prove their desire to play it on a more acceptable platform.
