Bioshock Vita was originally unveiled in E3 2011. Following the news of Irrational Games’ closure, 2K has stated that they have ‘no update’ regarding the prospective port.
So, just to point it out, we have tracked down Ken Levine’s history of talking about this game. On December of 2012, as well as February, July, and August of last year, he kept talking about trying to broker a deal between Sony and 2K Games to get it to happen. He has also shifted between talking about a port of Bioshock and/or Bioshock Infinite. Of course, implicit in all this but not directly stated was that the two companies were not going to do it, for reasons we have yet to confirm.
Today Levine has nothing to say on the subject on Twitter, as he is preoccupied helping his former coworkers get jobs with the #irrationaljobs hashtag. He is taking questions from fans, and confirmed bluntly that a new team will be taking over Bioshock (and his 16 person team apparently to try entirely new things). Without him negotiating for a port, it seems it will be up to market forces to determine if a Bioshock Vita is going to be released.
Could there be enough money in it for 2K Games to justify making the Vita port? 2K has still not outright denied the possibility, but it’s not hard to see the most likely conclusion the company will take. One wonders why Levine even made the promise way back in E3 2011 in the 1st place.
