Quantic Dream's founder David Cage has been awarded France's hightest national decoration, the Legion of Honor, La Figaro reports.
He joins luminaries such as Marcel Marceau, Jacques Cousteau and Alexis de Tocqueville as the first game creator to be inducted into the Legion. Cage, 44, has been appointed a Chevalier or knight of the organisation which dates back to 1802 and was founded by Napoleon.
The Legion has five ranks and is headed by Grand Master Francois Hollande, the country's president. People are eligible to join the Legion after 25 years of professional activity or 20 year of public service and possess "eminent merits." In total, there can be 113,425 Knights while the order currently has 74,384 (living and dead) and membership is not dependent on French nationality.
In 2006, the then French culture minister awarded Shigeru Miyamoto, Michel Ancel and Frederick Raynal the Chevalier of Arts but this is a separate award.
Cage's last game, Beyond: Two Souls, has sold over one million copies. We're sure Cage was very emotional when he heard the news.
