BioWare RPGs are among the very short list of games to feature same-sex romances. Dragon Age: Inquisition Lead Writer David Gaider addressed a question about same-sex content in BioWare titles from a fan who wrote that Dragon Age served as a beacon to them when they first came out, and wondered if Gaider’s homosexuality brought any insight or problems as a developer.
Gaider wrote a lengthy reply to the question, offering insights as a developer and discussing the direction in which he’d like to see the industry head towards.
It’s interesting to note that it wasn’t Gaider who suggested that Juhani in Knights of the Old Republic be a lesbian, and that it was his fellow developers at BioWare who wanted to include same-sex romances as content.
I’ve decided to post the reply in its entirety for the sake of retaining its nuance. It reads as follows:

I pondered just how I should answer this question, or whether I should at all. Talking about myself as a gay man, and how that relates to my work, isn’t something I tend to do. I think it raises the specter of “the gay thing” if I talk about it too much, as if it were the only thing with which I’m concerned.
It’s not, by any stretch, but it’s a valid question—and a question that keeps coming up. So I’ll address it as best I’m able. If this is a topic you’d rather not read about, I suggest moving on. [Read Full Post Here]
