Sony's press event took awhile to start, and the delay was punctuated by a hastily prepared 'pre-show' that was cut off with equal haste, two of its hosts were interrupted mid-sentence.

The press conference started with a very lengthy montage of videogame trailers, shown in 3D to those at the conference, followed by an apology from Sony's Jack Tretton.

Uncharted 3

The first game to hit the stage was Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. In the demo, Nathan Drake fights his way through an ocean liner, only to almost drown during his escape.

The presenters followed up the live demo of the game with an updated preview of Uncharted 3, featuring an evil Helen Mirren and a return of both Chloe and Elena.

Uncharted 3 is a PlayStation 3 exclusive, and will be released on 11-1-11.

Resistance 3

Resistance 3 picks up the story after Joseph Capelli, the last sentinel, leaves his family in Oklahoma to attempt a last ditch strike at the Chimera in New York City.

In the demo, Joseph and his allies in the resistance take out a Chimera dropship and attempt to steal a power core from the downed vehicle. There's plenty of chimera troops and a giant monster to make things difficult for the player.

In addition to a regular version, Resistance 3 will also be available in a Sharpshooter bundle for $150 dollars that comes with a Move controller and a PlayStation Eye camera.

3D Games and Hardware

Both the God of War Origins Collection and ICO and Shadow of the Colossus collection will be launching in September with full 3D support.

NBA 2k12

Kobe Bryant showed up to talk about NBA 2k12, which will offer full PlayStation Move support. It's a game with basketballs in it.
Medi-Evil
Medi-Evil offers full skull on skull violence, and requires the PlayStation Move to play. Players control their sword and bow entirely with the Move device. It's a fantasy themed game that looks like a cross between Fable and Arx Fatalis—if only for the gesture system.
InFamous 2
Cole McGrath makes his return in InFamous 2. As many previews have already shown, the electropowered bike messenger-turned-superhero makes his way to a city inspired by New Orleans to face a bunch of evil goons. He's accompanied by other superpowered allies this time around.
Players can create and share missions online and play the game with the PlayStation Move.
StarHawk
The WarHawk franchise returns as a FireFly-inspired Space Western featuring both third person shooter combat and air to air battles.
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
A new Sly Cooper game was announced for a 2012 release. Not much else is known about the game, apart from the fact that it features characters from previous titles and PlayStation 3 levels of graphic detail.
Dust 514
Jack Tretton continued by introducing the CEO of CCP, the developers behind Eve Online. He talked about Dust 514, a game based on combat and planetary conquest. Dust will be a shooter/MMO. It will be compatible with the NGP and Move both.
A trailer then played showing ‘Dust’ in its gameplay form, featuring large-scale combat, diverse weaponry, and in-action cut scenes. Closed beta end of this year, full release in Spring 2012.
Bioshock Infinite
Bioshock: Infinite then began its spectacle on the screen as we were shown brand new gameplay footage featuring some of the new plasmids and mechanics that will be a part of the universe in Columbia.
Ken Levine then started speaking to tell us more about the game and spoke on his skepticism about the Playstation Move. He, in essence, said “I hated it at first, but through a series of events I began to love it.” Obviously, ‘Infinite’ will feature Move compatibility. He then took an NGP out of his back pocket and said “We have ideas for this thing as well.”
(Ian Miles, one of my editors says that Ken Levine is such a fucking tease.)
The Run, Battlefield 3, and SSX that were discussed earlier today are also all coming to the PS3. SSX has exclusive content for the PS3.
Kazuo Hirai took the stage next to talk about Jack Tretton’s tie. Yeah, his tie – but only for about 10 seconds. Oh, and he talked about the downing of Playstation Network and sucked up to the general media presence for a few minutes.
In all seriousness, he went on to talk about the ‘Playstation Suite’, PSP and NGP. He said that while Sony still wants to support PSP, their new focus will be the NGP so as to break “Traditional boundaries of gaming as we know it.”
The NGP then took on the offical name ‘Playstation VITA’. The VITA will have a touch screen, dual analog sticks, front/ rear touch pads, sixaxis, and front/ rear cameras. There will be both 3G and WiFi models. It was also announced that Sony would be teaming up with at&t to support the VITA.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Scott Rohde, the Senior Vice President at Sony came out on the stage next to continue the speech on PSVita. He then invited out the developers of Uncharted: The Golden Abyss from Bend Studio who would continue on to show us a live gameplay demo.
The gameplay and visuals of the game were a huge crowd-pleaser from the start. The player alerted a guard and dispatched him with touch-screen control hand to hand combat. He then climbed the nearest wall with the touch controls and sixaxis motion controls. All of the controls can be used to play the game anyway you want; in layman’s terms, you can use any of the controls to complete any task.
Ruin
Mr. Rohde then took the stage again to introduce ‘Ruin’, an action-based RPG. Travis Williams then walked us through a demo of the game. Playing as a warrior-archetype character, the player crushed through enemies in what looked to be a dungeon/cave type of area. Other players serve as direct rivals through PSN, Facebook, and Twitter. It is then revealed that we are in another player’s ‘lair’, or ‘home base’. The player then saved his progress, and switched over to the PS3 using Playstation Cloud. Travis then closed to applause.
Modnation Racers
Erich Wass then introduced himself and the PSVita version of Modnation Racers. Quickly creating a track, the player then edited his track in a matter of seconds using the touch screen. By using the back touch panels he created mountains and formed the land around the track. He then adjusted the lighting and then he was ready to race! All of the tracks that were created on the PS3 version of Modnation Racers will be available on the PSVita version as well!
Mr. Rohde then took the stage once again to tell us about some more minor features of various games spanning the PSVita and its games. A trailer for LittleBigPlanet for the PSVita was then shown touting the PSVita’s new features as ‘New ways to play.’ Looks like we’ll all be developing our very own levels on the go very soon!
Street Fighter X Tekken
Mr. Rohde then ushered in a trailer for Street Fighter X Tekken, a game featuring characters from both franchises to many ‘Oohs’ and ‘Ahhs’. Yoshinori Ono from Capcom Japan then took the stage with his translator and went on to talk about the game. He also went on to announce that Cole from Infamous will be joining the ranks of the ucpcoming game, with a live gameplay trailer of the hero in action. (Cole kicked Ryu’s butt.)
Kazuo Hirai took the stage once again to close on the PSVita, explaining that the beginning of the PSVita’s life would be in this holiday season, priced at only $249.00 for the WiFi version. This was a huge surprise to the industry. The 3G version will be priced at $300.00 however.
Jack Tretton joined us once again to conclude on the conference with a speech that gave way to a montage and performance in usual Sony fashion.
