Sony has officially confirmed they are bringing the Vita PCH-2000 Model, aka the Vita Slim, to the US this Spring 2014. Interestingly, getting the Slim requires you buy a bundle: the Borderlands 2 Slim bundle.
The bundle is a good deal in and of itself. You do get the new model Vita, which trades off the OLED screen for a more portable design. You get an 8 GB Vita memory card, a $ 30 value. Add to that Borderlands 2, itself bundled with six DLC packs, and the same $ 199.99 price tag the PCH-1000 model has, and you have yourself a good deal. That’s practically $ 100 more you could have paid out of pocket that Sony is giving away here.
Of course, this is the 1st time we are getting a portable Borderlands game. Borderlands 2 is a few years old at this point, so it’s not exactly a technical achievement or particularly timely, but it was a popular game in its prime. The promise of future DLC might make this more enticing, but standing up on its own, Sony must be expecting a lot of double dippers. Maybe they’ve seen PS3 – Vita sales metrics to support this?
In any case, US is finally getting in on the newer Vita, and Sony is pinning their hopes that this iteration will bring the platform the success it’s been seeking for years. Aside from its own library, Vita has PS Plus, several kinds of connectivity with PS3 and PS4, and the promise of Playstation Now.
