Not all patches make games better, apparently. The inclusion of Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Onslaught DLC, as well as the recent stability patch, has significantly reduced the performance of the Xbox One version of the game. Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry took the next-generation game to task, discovering that there are multiple framerate and stability issues within the fresh maps.
“Kicking off with a look at Stonehaven, it’s immediately obvious that things are not quite right. While the game does indeed hit 60 FPS in this stage, framerates are dramatically impacted when the whole level is in view, with metrics varying between 46-60 FPS as we run across the landscape,” Digital Foundry’s David Bierton wrote. “As frame-rates fall below the desired 60 FPS target, we also see the appearance of some screen-tear, adding some judder, making drops in smoothness more noticeable.”
For a game that depends on smooth, quick gameplay, this is a big problem. Infinity Ward will need to issue a fix for the just released fix before too many Xbox One owners decide it’s not worth the hassle.
Even if you aren’t a fan of Ghosts, you’ll be getting plenty of other Call of Duty options in the future. The FPS kingpin is now on a three-year cycle, with Sledgehammer Games heading this year’s project.
