While Cyberpunk 2077 is easily one of the more anticipated video game titles coming out this year, there is some companion material that will release into the market either before or after the game’s release. For instance, we knew that there was a standalone comic book series coming out that’s set within the game universe which will release this September. However, today we’re finding out that the game will also spark an anime series in the coming years.
If you missed it, Cyberpunk Night City Wire was held earlier today, and with it came a brand new trailer for the game. However, if you’re wanting more Cyberpunk goodness in your life then you will be delighted to know that the IP is getting an anime series as well called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners but don’t expect it anytime soon. Instead, this announcement was followed up with a launch window of sometime in 2022. Regardless, we do have a few details on the series.
Apparently, this series will take place in the same universe but will be a standalone experience. Players will find new characters and a storyline to follow. It’s also being created by Trigger, a studio that has worked on a variety of anime series such as Kill la Kill and Little Witch Academia. While the details are scarce, the anime series will be relatively available as it’s being partnered up with the Netflix digital streaming service.
Currently, the anime is slated for a 2022 release, but Cyberpunk 2077 should meet its release date of November 19, 2020, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms.
