The Gears of War franchise seemingly went from zero to red hot yesterday, thanks to Microsoft’s acquisition of the property. Epic Games decided that now’s the time to let go of one of its most lucrative names to the console manufacturer, and while original creator Cliff Bleszinski won’t have any input on the next project, the third-person title will be in the safe hands of Black Tusk Studios.
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind, but all this attention on the IP has given Microsoft executive Phil Spencer time to connect with the Xbox fans and learn what they want out of a new Gears game. There have been plenty of middling ideas, but one fan’s suggestion of an RTS-style product set in this particular universe caught Spencer’s interest. They did it with Halo Wars, so why not give it a go with another popular brand?
@DarkKnightxx1 @DMC_Ryan @GearsViking Gears Universe with multiple races can work in many genres, I like the RTS idea.

So, maybe Halo Wars didn’t exactly catch on like Microsoft was hoping, but now that the company owns Gears of War, they can really try anything they want. For now, though, let’s just worry about that shooter that Black Tusk is working on.
