Rumor: Minecraft Spectator Mode Features, Test Mode On Thursday

January 28, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

We may have some advance information on a game mode Minecraft server owners have needed for so long.

We have a possible leak on what will be upcoming features of Spectator Mode for Minecraft.

Without further ado, these are the features verbatim:

·         Noclip

·         Flying

·         You can spectate through the eyes of other mobs

·         No inventory

·         No arm

·         Invisible players are semi transparent

·         Invisible to all players

·         Cannot interact with world and vice versa

·         /gamemode 3 @p

·         Arrows fly through you

·         Cannot push mobs

For the uninitiated, Noclip is walking through walls. Noclip and some of these other features were actually around in the earliest builds of Minecraft, and were dispensed with as the game developed.

The way Minecraft is now, Spectator Mode is not practically useful for either the single player campaign or competitive multiplayer. However, the mode is a long vital and missing feature for server owners. Now, they have the opportunity to get a view of the active player maps without affecting the game outcome.

Some additional notes:

You can spectate through the eyes of other mobs, but not take control of the mobs themselves. Again, this feature was intended to allow you to get a good look around the map without affecting the outcome.

Really, you can think of pretty much every feature in Spectator Mode this way. So, for example, using NoClip and Flying together, you won’t really be able to interact with anything, but you have the  freedom to go everywhere and see everything, Uatu style.

Spectator Mode is expected to come with Title Update 1.8. However, players will get a test release as soon as Thursday.
