Wii U Price Cut to £180 by UK Retailers

January 21, 2014 by Stephen Daly

The reduction is not an official price cut from Nintendo, however.

Some UK retailers have slashed the price of the Wii U Premium Pack to just £179.99 but a Nintendo spokesperson has confirmed to VG24/7 that they have not been instructed to do so.

Both Argos and Amazon are currently selling the console for the reduced price. Nintendo dubbed the reductions "retailer activity." The lower price rivals that of the Wii's original launch cost in the UK.

The Wii U was released for £299 in November, 2012 and is now widely available for around £249 or less.

Yesterday, shares in Nintendo fell by 18 per cent following news on Friday that the company's sales forecasts for its hardware would fall far short of original expectations for the current fiscal year.

Nintendo also issued a profit warning and anticipates a loss of $355 million for the same period. CEO Satoru Iwata has commented that the company is "thinking about a new business structure."
