Rumor: Nvidia Releasing New Graphics Cards Q1

January 21, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

If the rumors hold true, we might be getting a new GTX 700 line card and a Titan very soon.

We have a source alleging that Nvidia is updating two of their top of the line video cards as soon as Q1 2014. To be more specific, there will be successors to the TITAN and GTX 780 Ti.

The next TITAN, the GTX TITAN Black Edition, has been rumored for a while now under the name GTX 780 Ti Black Edition. It will have that card’s GPU, but with more double precision computing performance and FP64 CUDA cores. Most notably, it will have 6GB memory buffer. The new Titan is expected to retail for $ 999.

For the GTX 780 Ti’s true successor, Nvidia is expected to reveal the 1st dual GPU card in the 700 series. Information on this one is unverified by the source, so whether you like what you read or not, take what follows next with a grain of salt.

If the rumors are true, the alleged GTX 790 will have two 2496 CUDA processors, translating to a total of 4992 processors. It will also have a 320-bit interface, which means that it will not have the usual 2x 6GB memory configuration. Instead, it will have a 2x 5GB configuration, totaling 10 GB. This layout is hoped to lower power consumption to 300W TDP. The GTX 790 is expected to retail above $ 999, and released shortly after the TITAN Black, possibly February or March.

As you see, even as dedicated developers try to figure out the ins and outs of Playstation 4 and Xbox One, PCs are set to raise the bar again. This is not business as usual for the power boasting consoles. With Steam Machines coming sooner rather than later, every update Nvidia and AMD brings out widens the gap between PC and console, to the benefit of PC’s major players.
