Sony has revealed on the official Gran Turismo site that there is an ongoing issue on Gran Turismo 6. This is not a problem in the main game, but instead involves update 1.03, which was released last January 12.
This is how the error shows up:
When the game is being launched while you are connected to PSN, you will get a message that the update is available. However, after you accept the update, you will get a ‘Please wait…’ message, followed by 3 acoustic signals, and then the system will restart automatically. After the restart, the console will (correctly) tell you the system was not shut down properly, asking for a system file check, and then you will have to reboot. You may also be asked to report the error to Sony. In this situation, choosing either yes or no will get you out of the error. Once the error is done processing, you’ll get the prompt about the update again.
To avoid the error, you have to select OK to download the update within 2 seconds of when they prompt appears. If you take too long, you should decline the update, by pressing the Circle button when you get the ‘Please wait’ message. After going back to the ‘Sing in to PSN’ screen, the game will start again. You should then quit the game with the PS button while you are in the My Home screen and then try again.
There hasn’t been any reports of any other issues or concerns with Gran Turismo 6, but considering the game’s pedigree, and the reputation of its developers, this is a surprise. Some might even say it’s a disappointment. In any case, the issue is completely avoidable, and we hope Polyphony Digital is proactive about patching this up.
