Sony in Japan has confirmed that Driveclub has been taken off the list of launch titles for the Playstation 4 when it releases in Japan.
Driveclub was initially announced at E3 2013, as the next racer from Evolution Studios. Switching gears from MotorStorm, Driveclub places its focus on team racing, with a heavy emphasis on online multiplayer, PS4’s share features, and the Playstation Plus network. PS Plus members were getting a special edition of the game for free on Instant Game Collection. Of course, anticipation was high that early buyers would get their 1st 8th gen online experience with this game.
They first announced delays October 18 of last year on the official Playstation Blog. Shuhei Yoshida himself came on board to explain that Evolution Studios needed more time to polish the game’s visuals and overall experience. Last month, the Japanese Playstation website had the game listed for release for February 22, making it a launch game for Playstation 4 in Japan.
Driveclub’s official site now shows its release is TBD (To Be Dated). This time, there’s no Playstation Blog post to talk about it (at least not as of this writing), so we can only assume development continues. Obviously, it’s already a moot point by now, so if Evolution has to keep delaying it, I hope they do to make sure that it will be the best that it can be. One wonders if Project CARS or some other racer might end up getting the jump on Evolution for the system, but again, I don’t think Evolution Studios should care. We’ll keep you up to date as news on Driveclub’s release date is confirmed.
