PlayStation Now Recommends 5Mbps Download Speed for Lowest Latency

January 8, 2014 by Andrea Castellano

A 5Mbps internet is recommended for the PlayStation Now service.

With any streaming service, a faster internet connection provides the best results. To eliminate latency issues and ensure streams at the highest resolutions, Mathew Harper of the PlayStation Blog explained that a Sony recommends 5Mbps internet download speed.

In a post detailing the newly announced PlayStation Now game streaming service, Harper answered questions in the comments in regards to PS Now requirements. To best simulate playing a game off a local console, Harper says a 5Mbps internet connection is recommended.

PS Now offers a variety of purchase options as players can subscribe to a monthly fee or pay to rent each game individually. The streaming service requires a PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and a number of other Sony products to stream the games. To play games streamed to a Bravia television, Sony explained that all users require a DualShock 3 controller.

The PlayStation Now service enters its closed beta at the end of January and releases this summer.
