Streaming Service PlayStation Now Coming This Summer

January 7, 2014 by Josiah Renaudin

All of your Sony devices are about to become richer in software.

So, it might not be coming “Now,” but the much discussed PlayStation streaming service finally has a name. PlayStation Now, the subscription-based program that takes advantage of Gaikai technology, will be entering beta later this month, and prepping for full dispersal in the summer.

What is PlayStation Now? Think of it as an online network meant to stream a range of PS3 and PS2 games to numerous devices. All your favorite PlayStation products from generations gone by will be playable on tablets, Bravia TVs and PS Vitas for the first time. The use of PS4s and PS3s, though, is yet to be discussed.

Sony Computer Entertainment boss Andrew House confirmed that PlayStation Now will let players rent individual games, but it will also feature a model that will give buyers access to the entire library for some sort of subscription rate. Sony did not provide pricing information. This summer will start with PS3 game, but other software should be available down the line.
