PlayStation Now, the streaming service that Sony will be rolling out this summer, isn’t the best news for companies like GameFly. The by-mail business has been struggling to find a place in the digital future, but time might just run out when Sony allows its users to pay a nominal fee to play just about any previous-generation game they want without waiting for the mailperson.
GameFly isn’t throwing in the towel, though. A representative has told GameSpot that the PlayStation Now service is just too new to judge at this time.
"The PlayStation Now service is too new for us to understand potential impacts and therefore we have no comment," a representative said.
The concept of users downloading The Last of Us in an instant was enough to lower GameStop’s shares, as this style of distribution would eliminate the company’s used game sales business.
The closed beta for PlayStation Now – which is far from perfect at this time – will be launching at the end of the month.
