Valve has approved a good 50 titles on Steam Greenlight yesterday. We list each of the games below, but we’ll look at particular highlights in detail 1st. And at the top of the pile is definitely the greenlighting of Depression Quest.
Depression Quest is a twine game that helps people understand, in clear and certain terms, what it’s like to actually live with depression. The game made waves in its initial release, as many gamers who have been diagnosed with depression found that it made the condition explicit and easy to explain to a degree practically unheard of. Unfortunately, the mere act of submitting the game to Greenlight became the subject of unjustifiable controversy. With the game now approved on Steam, it will help create awareness and understanding of depression to the significantly growing Steam userbase.
Shadowgate and 7th Guest 3: The Collector are a remake and a sequel to two classic RPGs from the 90s. In both cases, the people behind the original games (zoji for Shadowgate and head dev Rob Landeros for 7th Guest) are at the helm, having managed to stay independent and keep the rights to their works. Is this perhaps a push for Steam to get more retro games, recognizing competition from Gog.com?
MANOS: The Hands of Fate and Hand of Fate are mentioned here for superfluous reasons, but I thought this story is worth telling. The two games have nothing to do with each other, and it simply seems like Steam knew they would have to approve both to avoid any potential controversy. MANOS: The Hands of Fate is an 8-bit style platformer that definitely strays from its source material, deemed one of the worst movies ever made. This is a good thing, as you are faced with one of the more challenging and fun platformers this side of a cyberpunk cyborg. Hand of Fate, on the other hand, is a genuine breath of fresh air: an action RPG/roguelike with card collecting/deck building mechanics. You might like one or both of these games, so why not check them out?
In fact, go ahead and check out all the games listed below. As always, Ctrl + F is your best friend.
