Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer is proud of the software that launched alongside the Xbox One. Sure, there was no Halo or Gears of War to make the initial batch of games a blockbuster showcase, but the Xbox executive knows how improved this release was compared to what the team cobbled together with the Xbox 360. He recently went into detail about the games during an interview with OXM.
"The fact that we have over 20 games that look so good [is the best part of the Xbox One launch]," Spencer said. "The launch of the 360… we were struggling to get Perfect Dark [Zero] done in time – I think it showed some of that struggle. We didn't have that exclusive lineup we have today. The game line-up that we have – I don't want to say it's a great surprise, but it's nice to see it land the way it did."
Was Ryse: Son of Rome a homerun? Not particularly, and neither was the microtransaction-riddled Forza 5, but launches are never perfect. For now, Spencer is proud of his team’s work, and looks forward to releasing more games on the Xbox One during this new year.
