PSA: Your BF4 China Rising Preorder Will Not Move With You From PS3 to PS4

December 20, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Two unfortunate loyalists learn the whole truth too late after going through the trouble of a next gen upgrade.

Player accounts allege that EA is not allowing players who preordered Battlefield 4 to carry over the China Rising  DLC from their PS3 to PS4 consoles. There are at least two accounts of players who went out of their way to contact EA customer service to verify this.

To clarify, this is how it played out. Both players preordered the game for Playstation 3, availing themselves of China Rising. One player used their code on their PS3, the other did not. When they upgraded the game to the Playstation 4 version, they used a code that makes it impossible to let go of their PS3 copies (they both happen to have disc versions).

Now, after upgrading, they found that China Rising did not carry over, and so they sought assistance from EA Customer Support. It was only then that they found out that the next gen upgrade does not allow them to bring China Rising over at all. Both players  were told they could purchase China Rising for their Playstation 4s separately.

Now, this is where it gets confusing. One log shows that an EA rep tells the customer that if they were a Premium member, China Rising and other DLC would have carried over automatically. However, based on the other source, they were an existing Premium member and they did not get the DLC carried over at all. Notably, this 2nd source was offered a discount code.

I don’t enjoy reporting these things about Battlefield 4, but at the same time, I feel bad for all the fans who were convinced into buying this game and are dealing with all these issues now. I hope you were not one of those players who felt misled by the China Rising hype. If you were, please do not hesitate to share your story with us below.

Note: Our original source is here, but we believe they reported a detail wrong. For this reason, our report has some differences with theirs.
