In one of many question-and-answers sessions coming for Heroes of the Storm, some Blizzard developers sat down to answer fan question. Game director Dustin Browder, senior artist Phill Gonzales and community manager Kevin Johnson, pull questions from Twitter around Blizzard's new MOBA.
Blizzard debuted Heroes of the Storm at the Blizzcon event last month after the development team rarely discussed the progress of their game. Weary of reception, the developers didn't know what kind of reaction to expect. Heroes of the Storm hope to evolve the MOBA genre with its own unique features. Multiple maps (as opposed to just one), objectives and goals changed the strategy needed from match to match.
When Blizzard experimented with ideas not involving the traditional three-lane structure of most MOBAs, they naturally gravitated towards the new maps. Underground portions of maps introduced PvE components to the competition as players fought skeletons and other monsters.
Since Heroes of the Storm draws from multiple Blizzard franchises, players can customize notable characters in both appearance and skill set. Multiple skins can change the appearance of characters, but the selection of character talents brings another layer of depth. While player may only fight with three talents, they choose from a pool of around 10 talents.
