Gran Turismo 6 Wheel Controllers Guide

December 16, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Get even more control with a realistic controller. Good options start at $ 300.

Starting out in Gran Turismo 6 and want to take it to the next level? We have some crowdsourced advice on the best racing wheel controllers available.

Most recommendations go to the Logitech G27. This controller comes with aluminum pedals and shift pads, clutch, a six speed shift box, and force feedback. It boasts real leather and steel parts, and small details like helical gears and custom dual motors makes that force feedback feel even more realistic. If you want to spring for an extra $ 100, you can even have it modded with a Loadcell for realistic breaking.

Next in line is the Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 RS V2. It boasts of force feedback, an adjustable Dead Zone, completely mappable buttons, and H-pattern shifter set and clutch support for most games. The GT3 RS V2 will also make you feel like you are using a real car, with automotive grade materials, such as the Alcantara and a genuine Porsche emblem.

If you are willing to spring extra moolah, you can get the Thrustmaster T500 RS. An official Gran Turismo racing wheel, it sets the bar in terms of realism and precision. This wheel comes with a pedal set, but not a shifter, which Thrustmaster offers separately in the form of the TH8 RS Gearbox. This premium set will cost you over $ 600, the cost of 10 retail games! Obviously, this is one for the truly discriminating racing sim fan.

As a last piece of advice, whichever controller you choose, save yourself the hassle of setting it up every time and buy a Wheel Stand Pro, or a similar peripheral. Without one you will find setting up your wheel controller gets old real soon, and you might find yourself not using it much.
