Microsoft Addresses Lack of Xbox One Demos, Says it’s Up to Developers

December 10, 2013 by Stephen Daly

Major Nelson says developers decide whether or not to create free trials for games.

Microsoft's Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb has addressed complaints about the lack of demos for Xbox One games saying that it's up to developers to decide whether of not to make a game trial.

On his blog, Nelson wrote:

"It is (and always has been) up to game developers to do demos for their own games. They'll be more demos for Xbox One as the platform goes forward."

While retail releases on Xbox 360 didn't require demos digital games did but that's no longer the case on Xbox One.

Earlier this year Xbox platform architect Marc Whitten told IGN that Microsoft was "going to work on lots of ways to make it easy for you to find and try new games on the service" but did not provide details on how that will happen on Xbox One.

Last week Nelson promised that Xbox One features including the home menu and party chat will "get better."

The demos that are currently available on Xbox One do not show up on the storefront and need to be searched for using Bing.
