Mortal Kombat has been an iconic video game franchise and if you’re not a big fan of fighting video games, chances are you played a few Mortal Kombat titles over the years. The creator behind the franchise, Ed Boon, is one gamer that certainly has some interest in the fighting genre and as a result, there are a few classic franchises that he likely not only takes inspiration from but enjoys. Out of nowhere, Ed Boon decided to put one franchise on blast on his Twitter account.
While there are countless fighting game series available, there are plenty from yesteryear that has gone dormant. For instance, there is Bloody Roar and the Darkstalkers series that hasn’t been touched in a few years now, but for Ed Boon, he would like to see Virtua Fighter make a grand return. Speaking to his followers, Ed Boon pleads that someone needs to reboot Virtua Fighter, a video game franchise has been around since 1993.
Unfortunately, Virtua Fighter hasn’t received any love since 2012, now that Ed Boon is interested, could we see the franchise finally get some new development work once again? The series has had a good following and the video game releases tended to do well, so it’s curious as to why the series never continued on. At any rate, there is no word as to what the future will hold of the franchise but so far there have been thousands of likes since the Tweet went live so perhaps Ed Boon was giving the franchise a slight push back to the limelight.
While we wait to see if anything new comes of the Virtua Fighter franchise, Mortal Kombat recently had a new installment released into the market. Fans can pick up a copy of Mortal Kombat 11 today for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the Google Stadia platform.
