At the launch of their new SFF motherboards and GeForce GPU cards, Nvidia has once again talked up the PC over the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
In Nvidia’s own words, PC is superior to any console in the realm of gaming, and also offers the benefits of a computer. And so, Nvidia is putting small form-factor PCs forward as alternatives to next gen consoles. They are also making efforts to simplify PC gaming as much as possible, with the hopes of widening its appeal beyond the core PC master race fanbase, to a broader range of gamers.
Of course, much of gaming’s rich history has had as much to do on PC as much as it has on dedicated consoles. Nvidia does point out that many gamers have been hesitant to earnestly get into PC gaming, even if they may already be doing so in one form or another. This hesitation stems from the perception that PC gaming costs more and requires the technical knowhow to build and maintain your own setups.
In word, and deed, Nvidia has genuinely made a push for PC gaming. Self-interest aside, it really is turning out into a huge win for consumers who are getting Nvidia cards, seeing rapid updates and fixes to their most popular games.
Regarding Nvidia’s small form-factor plans, they are announcing not only a new GeForce 9800S GPU series for SFF PCs. They are also making a new set of motherboards, called the Nvidia nForce 760S SLI, that will be compatible with mini-ITX, SFF and uATX standards. Using this SLI with Nvidia’s own graphics cards will result in double the increase in performance. You can find out more about the SFF Geforce cards here and the nForce SLIs here.
I’m not going to tell you I agree with Nvidia here, but I will tell you to certainly make a compelling case for PC gaming with their products alone. Whether you game on PC or not, you will want to watch out for Nvidia, as they are literally invested in actually making PC the true master race, and the crazy part is, they just might do it.
