There will be more Gears of War games. At this point, that should seem pretty obvious, but what those games look like, which platforms they will launch on, and when in the timeline they take place are all reasons why the next step should be interesting. Microsoft Studios executive Phil Spencer recently spoke to Kotaku about the wildly popular franchise, and while no new game can be confirmed at this time, Microsoft is having “active” discussions about the franchise’s future.
"I'm a huge fan of the franchise," Spencer said. "I want to continue to work with Gears. I think there's a lot of life left in that franchise. We had an internal discussion on it even yesterday. It's something that's active in discussion about what we can do with Gears."
Could we see a new game on the PlayStation 4, though? The rumors have been swirling, but Spencer leaves that question up to Epic.
"It's Epic's franchise," he said. "You and I both know that. I can't make any assurances about anybody else's franchise. It's Epic's game and we have to talk to them about a partnership and what they want to do. As you know, you probably know right now they're more focused on other areas of their business right now."
Judgment wasn’t exactly the most beloved title in the franchise, so now might be the perfect time to change things up and take all the chainsawing to new places.
