Fire Emblem’s Byleth Enters Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

January 16, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

A new long-range character has entered the fight.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a massive game with a wide range of characters in the roster as is. However, we knew before the game launched that Nintendo had plans to support the title with post-launch content with the form of new characters. We had a few DLC characters already added into the game already but now a new Nintendo Direct has unveiled that the next character to join the fight is Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses released in July of 2019 for the Nintendo Switch and if you played it then you may be familiar with Byleth. Just like in Fire Emblem, Byleth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be available in both a male or female form. From there this character seems to be a more distant type fighter so don’t expect too much action from Byleth in close range. Instead, with the sword, whip and ax attacks, you’ll be able to deliver some major damage to your opponents at a distance. Furthermore, this character will bring in a new stage themed around Fire Emblem: Three Houses along with some new music tracks.

This may be one character players will flock towards when it drops, but if your favorite character has yet to make an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate then you’re not out of luck. Instead, it looks like Nintendo will be adding even more characters into the game. Earlier today it was revealed that Nintendo has plans to add 6 more characters into the game before 2022 hits. Just as before, we don’t know what characters are being added int but you’ll be able to pre-purchase the pack when Byleth’s content finally reaches the game on January 28, 2020.

Currently, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available on the Nintendo Switch. If you have yet to pick up a copy then you may want to check out our review on the game in our Before You Buy episode upload down below.
