Sonic the Hedgehog has always been pretty tame and suitable for children. From its start as a platforming title on the Sega Genesis, the Sega mascot has been around for decades. It’s received countless video game installments, cartoons, comic books, and toys. However, the blue hedgehog is soon making his way onto the big screen with a live-action movie adaptation. If you were worried the movie would prove to be too harsh for children then you can rest easy as it’s official, Sonic the Hedgehog would receive a PG rating.
Most video game movie adaptations don’t do well. There doesn’t seem to be a winning formula quite yet to make the gaming industry a big hit in the movie industry much like how Marvel became a massive worldwide phenomenon thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Still, that doesn’t stop productions from trying their hand at bringing out a new film based on a popular video game franchise. One of the upcoming latest to soon grace us in theaters is Sonic the Hedgehog.
This live-action adaptation came with its share of ridicule online from those quickly writing the movie off before any assets were shared online. Then the biggest complaints rolled in when the first trailer released showcasing a design that fans did not take to for Sonic. In fact, the blowback was so massive that the film production was halted as designers went back in and adjusted Sonic’s design throughout the entire movie.
While fans may be relatively fine with the design of Sonic now, it still remains to be seen if this film will really become a hit or not. Some are finding the premise a little out there for Sonic the Hedgehog, but at the moment, reviews will not be available for a little while. This PG-rated Sonic movie won’t make it to theaters until February 14, 2020.
