The Halo franchise is one of the biggest Microsoft exclusives. It’s become such a fan-favorite FPS over the years since it got its start on the original Xbox. After five main installments, remastered editions, spin-offs along with the games making it on new platforms, there’s plenty of hype building up over the next installment. While most of us are looking forward to what’s coming out for the franchise, one co-creator offers a look at the history of a Halo 2 cinematic.
Halo 2 released in 2004 and while it was another hit in the franchise, there was plenty of work that had to go into the title. We typically see old archive footage of old game development progress over the years by fans that come across assets or connections with the people in charge of the game industry. However, for this Halo 2 early cinematic, it was Marcus Lehto, the co-creator of Halo that came across some old files on a hard drive one day in his attic.
Apparently, when Marcus was cleaning out the attic he came across an old hard drive. In the drive was some files for Halo 2, one of which was an early cut of a cinematic. It’s in rough shape, there’s no voice acting or detailed visuals. In fact, there is a simple JPEG of a Halo ring for one portion of the video. Still, this newly released footage does give new insight for fans on how the development went from early rough drafts to the fully developed cinematic.
We’re certainly interested in if Marcus will dig a little more and find some new footage or assets that showcased the development process for the game. Regardless, for those who are waiting for a little more Halo in their lives, Halo Infinite is slated to launch at the end of this year for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X and the PC platforms.
