Microsoft: Forza 5 Running at 1080p, 60fps Shows What Future Xbox One Games Can Be

November 22, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

What Forza 5 is able to do in terms of presentation shows just the start of the Xbox One’s power.

Microsoft is happy with its day-one suite of software. There’s Ryse: Son of Rome out there for everyone who just likes to stab stuff. For the crowd who prefers dismembering less-living people, Dead Rising 3 is the perfect choice. However, in a recent interview with GameIndustry International, corporate vice President at Microsoft, Phil Harrison pointed to Forza 5 when discussing the future of Xbox One. The game’s fast pace and high resolution – which is a topic that’s been in the news quite a bit as of late – show just what the next-gen console can do down the line.

“I think the launch line-up as a whole delivers exactly what we wanted it to be. A balance of powerhouse brands that everyone knows and new things that they haven't played before, with individual and in aggregate experiences that really show off the power and promise of the machine,” Harrison said. “And I think we have that, I think from a game like Forza 5 – beautiful, stunning game 1080p, 60fps – you can see the performance of the machine on the screen for you to enjoy and luxuriate in, and now do that mental extrapolation and start thinking about what games are going to look like one, three, five or seven years from now. That's really exciting.”

High pre-order numbers and early sales figures for both consoles indicate that yes, people still want to stay at home and play console games. Neither launch lineup has done that much to impress critics or consumers, but the hardware itself has been interesting enough to make an impact.
